  • The Smith & Wesson Model 59 is a stainless steel, DA/SA action, 9mm semi-automatic pistol introduced in 1970 by the American company Smith & Wesson. It uses a Browning-type locking system. The firearm was originally designed for the U.S navy as a high-capacity pistol. The Model 59 was issued to Navy SEAL commandos for evaluation in the field. Although, it was not chosen.

It was later put on the market and then production ceased when an improved series was introduced. The improved series was the Smith & Wesson Model 459, which featured adjustable sights and a checker nylon grips.
