A select-fire weapon is defined as a weapon being capable of more than one mode of fire, usually SAFE, SEMI (semi-automatic), and AUTO (fully automatic).

Less commonly, some weapons are also capable of burst fire, which is automatic fire that is mechanically limited to typically 2, 3, or 5 rounds.
