A safety is the mechanical part that, when active, prevents the firearm from firing.

Components[]

A safety is typically a mechanical switch or knob that when turned on, prevents the weapon from firing. It is often integrated with the selector on the fire control group.

Variations[]

Switch[]

A safety in the form of a switch is the most common, in particular rotating and sliding forms. These are mostly found in conjunction with the fire selector.

Grip[]

A safety grip is mostly found under the trigger guard and in some cases behind the grip. This prevents the weapon firing unless it is in the hands of the user.

Trigger[]

A trigger safety is where the trigger wont fire unless it is pulled by the user.
