The RPG-22 Netto (Нетто, net in English), also known as the TKB-0125, is a Russian rocket launcher.
History
The RPG-22 Netto was adopted in 1985 to replace the RPG-18, and the RPG-18 was completely replaced by 1990.
Design Details
The RPG-22 looks very similar to the M72 LAW by Nammo, due to it being developed from the RPG-18. The weapon's smoothbore launch tube is made of two fiberglass parts; the main tube and the telescoping forward extension which slides over the weapon's barrel. The RPG-22 has two covers which cover both ends of the weapon when it is being transported; both open when the weapon is extended. The weapon's firing mechanism is cocked when the rear sight is raised; lowering it de-cocks the weapon if there is no target. There is a backblast danger area of at least 15 meters (at least 49.2 feet) when fired.
Ammunition
The RPG-22 uses the PG-22 round, a 72.5mm shaped HEAT warhead. The round has a stated penetration capability in excess of 400 millimeters (15.7 inches) of rolled homogenous armor, 1000 millimeters (39.4 inches) of reinforced concrete and 1200 millimeters (47.2 inches) of brick. The rocket's solid propellant burns out completely when it is still in the launch tube, which accelerates it to 133 meters per second (436.4 feet per second).
Variants
There is a reusable variant of the RPG-22 which fires a subcaliber 30mm projectile. It weighs only 350 grams (0.772 pounds) to operational ranges, with handling of the reusable variant being identical to the full-sized RPG-22, with the exception of the backblast and the sound of the projectile leaving the barrel.
