The RPG-16 Udar (Удар, strike in Russian), also known as the RPG-16 Grom or the TKB-034, is a Soviet rocket launcher.

HistoryEdit

The RPG-16 was developed in 1968 and adopted by Russian special forces in 1970.

Design DetailsEdit

The RPG-16 looks similar to the famed RPG-7, but the RPG-16 is distinguishable with a single pistol grip compared to the RPG-7's 2, as well as the addition of a bipod. The weapon uses a smaller warhead which does not stick out of the launcher unlike the PG-7 warhead used by the RPG-7. The weapon has a warhead of smaller caliber than the RPG-7's, but a more powerful rocket booster, making the RPG-16 more accurate at longer ranges. Because of the rocket not sticking out of the launcher, the weapon sacrifices firepower for performance; due to its smaller warhead, it does not have as much penetration power as the PG-7V round. The warhead is fired through an electrical current activated by pulling the trigger.

AmmunitionEdit

The RPG-16 uses the PG-16V round, a 58.3mm warhead. The warhead is possibly a double shaped-charge. The round has a stated penetration capability of 300 millimeters (11.8 inches) of rolled homogeneous armor. When firing, the rocket booster is engaged as soon as the warhead is a safe distance away from the operator.
