The Postnikov APT (Автомат Постникова АПТ) is an assault rifle of Russian origin. The weapon is chambered in the 5.45x39mm round and was intended as an entry in Project Abakan, which was tendered by Abakan THREAD Progress Izhevsk, which was also a gunsmith direction. Despite being entered into the Project, the APT was one of the first designs eliminated due to reliability issues.
The Postnikov APT is a 5.45x39mm assault rifle fed from 30 round AK magazines. It uses an unusual operation that uses gas pressure out the back of the cartridge using the primer to cock the striker/internal gas piston and unlock the bolt. The bolt is locked with a wedge at the head and is actuated when firing.
