The MTE .224 is a series of obscure Swiss pistols/machine pistols chambered in the prototype .224 VOB cartridge.

History[]

The MTE 224 V and MTE 224 VA pistols were designed to fire the 5.56×23.5 mm cartridge designed by by Peter Voboril of Caliber Prague Limited, which was developed to meet the NATO Personal Defence Weapon specification.

The pistols were scheduled to commence production in January 2000. Development seems to have completely halted however, and it is unknown what had become of the pistols since then.

Design[]

The MTE 224 V and the MTE 224 VA pistols are both blowback-operated pistols. The MTE 224 V is a semi-automatic pistol, while the MTE 224 VA is a select-fire machine pistol. Both pistols feature a fluted barrel with a muzzle brake, which protrudes from the front of the slide and frame.

The pistols can fire in single or double-action. All components are fully machined from solid metal.

The pistols include an automatic firing pin safety, a decocking lever, and a manual safety lever.

The top of the slide is slotted, while the rear end of the slide is ribbed.

Accessory rails are located in front of the trigger guard, which can accept a foregrip with a backup magazine, as well as tactical lights and laser aiming devices developed by Laser Devices Inc of Monterey, California.

A quick-detach suppressor can be locked into two grooves machined into the end of the barrel, and is intended for the semi-automatic mode only.
