The MP TEŽ is a prototype Croatian insurrectionist submachine gun.

History[]

The year was 1991. The dissolution of Yugoslavia left Croatia with little weapons to arm their troops in time for said country's war of independence. An embargo prevented the newly formed state from legally buying weapons from across seas, which left Croatia with no choice but to design their own weapons, leading to the TEŽ. The weapons were produced by Tvornica Elektricnih Žarulja (or TEŽ), a lightbulb factory. The TEŽ was submitted to trials, but was rejected due to various shortcomings.[1][2] Only two were produced.

Design Details[]

The TEŽ is a very crudely-designed submachine gun with wooden furniture. The weapon is quite obviously a crude copy of the well-proven Sterling submachine gun or a Sten with slightly different ergonomics. The weapon is select fire and has a selector switch on the left side of the weapon.[2]

The weapon uses 32-round detachable box magazines, likely from either a Sten or a Sterling submachine gun. A bandolier could also be attached to the weapon which allowed for increased maneuverability. The pistol grip was made of steel, but had wooden side plates.
