The MBT 1925 (incorrectly known as the MTB 1925) is a prototype Italian bolt-action rifle.

History[]

The rifle was designed in 1925 as a military-style rifle. Three rifles were produced by Metallurgica Brescia gia Tempini (MBT) in 1925 in hopes of finding military contracts. All three rifles went to different places; rifle no. 1 remained in Italy, no. 2 went to Norway and no. 3 went to Russia where it was picked up by an American Lend Lease pilot.

The rifle failed to garnered any attention mainly due its high cost of production, especially considering that the weapon was a straight-pull bolt action rifle. The patents were refiled in 1926 with addendums for semi-automatic and fully-automatic improvements of the rifle, but those never came to be; the patents, however, appear to have led to similar rifles such as the Scotti Mod. X.

Design Details[]

Despite appearing like some sort of self-loading rifle, the MBT 1925 is actually a straight-pull bolt action rifle. The rifle's bolt is notably quite complex, with an added safety feature that rotates the locking lugs when the firing pin is extended to prevent the rifle from firing out of battery.[1]

Trivia[]

  • While in Norway, rifle no. 3 was apparently tinkered around by the AB C.J. Ljungmans VerkstƤder company.
