PAO «Izhevskiy Mekhanicheskiy Zavod» (ПАО «Ижевский механический завод»), also known as Izhevsk Mechanical Plant (Ижевский Mеханический Завод Izhevskiy Mekhanicheskiy Zavod) or IZHMEKH (ИЖМЕХ), is a major Russian firearms manufacturer.

History[]

The company was founded on July 20, 1942 on the decision of the Russian State Defense Committee. Weapons manufacture was originally operated out of State Factory 622, which would later be renamed to the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant.

The company produces about 86% of Russian firearms and also produces firearms for export under the trademark of Baikal, named after Lake Baikal; after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the range of products offered under the Baikal name was greatly expanded. Baikal products are also said to be sold by Remington under the name of Ranger.
