I wish to draw your attention to the 44 Magnum article. It contains an error. The writer indicates that the 44 Magnum case was made is longer than the 44 Special to prevent some one from chambering a 44 Magnum cartridge in a 44 Special. This is false.

While catastrophic failures will occur, all 44 Special revolvers will fire the 44 Magnum. The reason is simple: while it is true that the 44 Magnum case is longer the maximum overall length of the 44 Special is slightly greater.

The reason that the 44 Magnum was lengthened was: • Help differentiate the cartridges visually avoiding confusion • Seat bullets out further providing a longer powder column with Keith type bullets
