A grain is the unit by which the mass of propellant (measured by tenths of a grain) and bullets (measured by grain) are measured. One grain is equivalent to 1/7000th of a pound. It is abbreviated as "gr".

It is part of the avoirdupois system of mass measurement, still in use by the UK and other Commonwealth nations, as well as the U.S. Its usage for measurement of the mass of bullets and gunpowder, however, is universal.
