Georgy Semyonovich Shpagin was a Soviet firearms designer.
Shpagin worked with Vasily Degtyaryov and Vladimir Fyodorov in workshops around the Vladimir Oblast. After 15 years of unsuccessful attempts at creating firearms, he created the DShK machine gun with Degtyaryov. He later created the PPSh-41 as a replacement for the older PPD submachine gun; it was cheap to produce and easier to maintain than the PPD. Due to this, the PPSh has been considered Shpagin's most well known and accredited design to date. After a battle with stomach cancer, he passed away in 1952 at the age of 54.
He was known for his work with the PPSh-41.
