The LF-59 is a battle rifle of Italian origin. Althought being similar to the FN FAL It was operated by a long-stroke gas piston, which was directly connected to the bolt carrier. The bolt pivoted upward when the carrier and piston started to travel backward, unlocking itself when the pressure had dropped to a safe level, much like an STG 44. It was a well built rifle, but also expensive to manufacture, so the Italian armed forces ultimately chose the Beretta BM-59, itself a modernization of the M1 Garand.
