The Encom, also marketed as the Enfield MP-45, was an American pistol produced by Encom America (also known as Enfield America, of no relation to RSAF Enfield).

History[]

The Encom pistol was designed by John P. Foote in the early 1980s. It was produced for the domestic civilian market and was offered in 9×19mm and .45 ACP. A carbine conversion kit was available for the Encom, which included a detachable wire buttstock and screw-on 16-inch barrel extension, and a left-handed model with a reconfigured cocking handle and magazine release was also produced in limited numbers. The pistols came with an AR-15 compatable "Ram Line" pistol grip. A total of around 5,000 Encom pistols were made.

Design[]

The Encom was a basic blowback-operated, semi-automatic pistol with few notable features. Both the rear and front sights were "dog-eared" with screw holes to allow the user to affix a scope mount or sighting rail. The standard magazine size was 10 rounds, although the gun could accept extended magazines of 30, 40, and 50 rounds.
