Israel's IMI

The Desert Eagle is a popular large-caliber handgun originally produced and patented by Magnum Research in the 1990s. The gun was licensed to IMI who further designed and refined it. It is famous for looking and seeming to be incredibly powerful and its appearances in numerous movies, books, television shows, and most prominently video games such as Counter-Strike, have all helped it gain a sort of cult status.

Despite the hype, the Desert Eagle has never been used as a military or law enforcement weapon, much less "wunderwaffe" pistol. Due to excessive weight, recoil, cost, insufficient magazine capacity, and poor reliability, the Desert Eagle is a poor choice for a combat sidearm. Similarly, it is not suitable for self-defense. The real niche for the Desert Eagle is hunting and silhouette shooting. The recoil and cost of ammunition make it a poor choice for plinking, though.

The Desert Eagle can be chambered for many different cartridges, the most popular being .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum, and .50 Action Express.

[edit] Customization

Customizations to the Desert Eagle are just as popular as the gun itself. There are numerous customization possibilities, most popularly the gun's finish. There are variants from Matte black to Chrome finishes to Titanium gold.
