The Anschütz 1827F is a straight-pull bolt action biathlon rifle of German origin, manufactured by J.G. Anschütz.

Design Details[]

A high-end biathlon rifle designed by Peter Fortner Jr. and used in biathlon shooting competitions, especially during the Winter Olympics, the 1827F is made of high-quality materials and brimming with design features that give a competitive edge.

The stock is made of walnut wood with stippled checkering at the grip, and a rail for a harness and target sling. It also features a cartridge spender for six rounds of ammunition, along with four spaces for extra magazines. The fore end's height can be adjusted by means of two riser blocks that can be screwed onto the bottom of the trigger guard to the maximum height of 12cm (4.72 inches) as allowed by the IBU, in addition to a clamping piece to enable an individual length adjustment of the harness. The stock also features two integral clamping pieces of the cheek piece and the aluminum buttplate.

The barreled action system is of a Fortner straight-pull repeater configuration with a knurled, non-slip bolt handle. Locking is achieved through seven hardened steel balls, allowing for an extremely short lock time, exceptionally smooth action, and reliable extraction of spent casings. It has a side-mounted mag release lever to allow for a faster exchange of magazines, and a one-piece firing pin system with a defined end-stop area to prevent damage while dry-firing.

The barrel itself is a cylindrical precision target sprint barrel made of steel that is gas-nitrided for a long service life and cold tested at a temperature of -30° C. Made via Anschütz's special manufacturing process, the barrel features a recessed muzzle and the company's own 6865 biathlon front sight, which has a snow cover.

The 1827F uses the very high-end Anschütz 5020 two-stage trigger system, which is typically adjusted to 550 grams.

The five-round magazines used by the rifle are especially treated for a long service life and feature special non-slip bottoms. These bottoms not only make the reloading process easier, but also to reduce the surface on which wind could act when put into the stock's magazine storage spaces.

Ammunition[]

The 1827F uses the .22 Long Rifle ammunition, which had become the standard for biathlon shooting competitions since 1979.
