The 16 gauge is a shotgun cartridge. It was in common usage during the early to mid 1900s.


It was commonly used for waterfowl hunting in the early to mid 1900s. Usage of the 16 gauge is increasingly rare today, due to the 12 gauge and 20 gauge cartridges covering most uses for a shotgun.
